You can set all configuration on WordPress wp-config.php file.

    Hello !

It does not allow to change database name or change other configuration.
You website may be lost by changing configuration. And impossible to recover it back.
You can access file via FTP not by dashboard.

    Thanks & Regards

my intention is not to edit but to just locate the database name in the wp.config file. it is strange how it does not appear anywhere.

    Hello !

That file is WordPress file not plugin or themes file,So it required cpanel or FTP fo accessing that file.
When you change the database name it also disturb your website.
Because wordpress create their required table database while installing wordpress.
