How can I remove the category section from the homepage. I don't want any category tabs showing nor any category products. The reason I want this section removed is because it affects page speed.

I've attached an image indicating the (2) two areas I would like to remove. If you could point out the underlying code that relates to each of these I might just hide the categories and leave the products or I might hide the products and leave the categories or I might decide to hide both.
