Change left column to widget area?

Hi. I'm using the Pad Writing theme and trying to change the left-hand column on the home page to a widget area. By default it is for recent posts. Instead, I want to use the recent posts widget which displays the posts much better on the left column and use the right column (which is already a widget column) for other widgets. I actually have lots of reasons for wanting to do this, but my main question comes down to this.

Is there any way to change the left-hand column to a widget column? I want to completely remove the blog function of that left column and have it be a widget area just like the right.

I was wondering the same thing. I feel like I have no control of the theme, and how it displays content.

Unfortunately there isn't a way to do that with our theme unless you custom code something up. Sorry.
