change order of homepage content sections

is it possible to change the order of content sections on the homepage?

i'd like to add full width content below the slider and above the 3-column feature area.

i switched the order of the '3-column feature area' and 'home-page blog' in front-page.php. when i did this, though, no blog section displayed between the slider and the 3-column feature area.

how can i add a section for content between the slider and 3-column feature area. also, assuming i can switch the order, how can i make the blog full-width instead of also three columns?
